Differentiae in this manuscript are written in the margins of the manuscript and frequently include an indication of mode with Roman numerals. The cropping of some folios has made some differentiae incomplete, but the 'missing' part of each differentia can sometimes be inferred from what remains. In the original Cantus index, differentia were numbered arbitrarily for each mode. For the rationale of the transcription of adiastematic neumed differentiae into pitched notation, see Rebecca Shaw's thesis.
