Information on differentia
This manuscript uses tonary letters in the inner margins and neumed differentiae in the outer margins. The Cantus index records the tonary letters in the "Extra" field, if it deviates from that indicated by the neumed differentiae. The manuscript includes an incomplete tonary on ff. 191r-191v (modes 4 to 8). The differentiae identified here are from the outer margins of the manuscript. Some differentiae appear the same in their neumed versions, but are identified as distinct differentiae by the tonary letters (e.g., ah and ak). For the rationale of the transcription of adiastematic neumed differentiae into pitched notation, see Rebecca Shaw's thesis.
